The Olympus National Park Management Agency is a body governed by private law and was established
in 2002, by the Law 3044/2002 (Gov. Gazette 197/A/27-8-2002), in accordance with the Law 1650/15-10-1986 (Gov. Gazette 160/A/18-10-1986) and Law 2742/1999 (Gov. Gazette 207/A/7-10-1999).
is to manage and protect the region « Olympus National Park». Among the responsibilities of the Agency is the systematic monitoring of the environmental parameters of the protected region, collaboration with the competent authorities to ensure control and enforcement of the environmental legislation and informing, and educating the public regarding the protected region. Its aim is the sustainable management of the protected area "Olympus National Park". It is also responsible for the protection of all flora, fauna and natural formations within the "National Park".
The Agency is supervised
by the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works and financed
by the Operational Programme «Environment». It is a non profit organisation.
The Olympus National Park Management Agency is run
by an eleven-member Board of Directors whose composition was determined by the No. 30719 Decision of the Minister for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works (30719/1-9-2009 Gazette 374). In the Board of Directors a range of institutions are represented, whose object is to manage the region «Olympus National Park». Mr. Nikolaos Kakkalos, Mathematician, and a representative of the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works is appointed as the Chairman of the Management Agency.
The Management Agency is currently housed in the former Youth Information Centre at Litochoro prior to relocation to the Information Centre of the Olympus National Park next to Litochoro Public Gymnasium, once construction of the new building is completed.
